Madredeus - Music Planet - Indigo

The most famous band in the revival of Portugese music, Madredeus, hailing from Lisbon, records its songs in the Azores, in the middle of nature. The music of Madredeus - composed of a voice, two guitars, a cello, an accordion and a keyboard - blends nostalgia and love, revolt and expectation. In their songs, each word creates its own special musical atmosphere. "The band was formed in order to put the Portuguese language to music, by taking the language back to its musical format", explains guitarist José Peixoto. In 1994, after a tour lasting several months, the six members of Madredeus went to get back in touch with their inner selves in the Azores, where they draw a large part of their inspiration. Here, the band recorded a few songs in magnificent surroundings: on the shores of a freshwater lake, at the top of a lighthouse, on the slopes of a volcano, and in other magical settings.
