In December 1982 Cherry Red Records released a 17 track sampler album featuring the artists and projects the label were currently working. The album, selling for 99p, entered the Independent chart at No. 1 and stayed in that chart for nearly a year. It sold 120.000 copies and received unanimously great reviews.

Two years later a film was released with the same name featuring Marine Girls, Jane, Kevin Hewick, Fantastic Something, Eyeless In Gaza, Everything But The Girl and The Monochrome Set. The film was shot and edited by diretor Christopher Collins and went on to receive high acclaim including winning the prize for "Best Short Film" at the Italian Film Festival in 1984.

This DVD includes the Pillow and Prayers film, three Cherry Red promotional films from that period, and an interview with Cherry Red founder Ian MyNay and former A&R man Mike Alway talking about the history of Cherry Red and the origin of the Pillows and Prayers.
