Handlung und Filmbeschreibung:
DVD 1:
"Rock Milestones - Piper At The Gates Of Dawn"
Pink Floyd's debut album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, epitomized the remarkable year of 1967, and is today considered to be a prime example of English psychedelia. The album's tracks; predominatly written by the great, late Syd Barrett, showcase poetic and surreal lyrics often referring to folklore (such as The Gnome). The eclectic mixture of music ranged from the avantgarde free-form piece Interstellar Overdrive, one of rock's first forays into deep space, to whimsical songs such as The Scarecrow. Recorded at Abbey Road, the album reflected the new technologies in electronics throught its prominent use of stereo panning and electric keyboards.
DVD 2:
"Rock Milestones - Ummagumma"
Ummagumma is a transitional album marking the end of the space rock/pastoral phase of Pink Floyd before the band moved on to the epic soundscapes of Atom Heart Mother and Meddle. The title of the album is pronounced by the band “ooma-gooma” by the band, and it is not just pronunciation which presents difficulties in approaching this curious album. Ummagumma still today splits the world of Floyd supporters into those who love the work and those who feel that much of it is frankly unlistenable? In this penetrating independent review narrated by Bob Harris, we hear the views of the band in retrospect contrasted with the views of the album’s Executive Producer, Norman Smith. The film draws on extensive rare footage of Pink Floyd in performance of material from Ummagumma to produce the most frank, comprehensive and forthright review of a landmark in rock history.
DVD 3:
"Pink Floyd On The Record And In Their Own Words"
Pink Floyd twice overcame to loss of the band's creative driving force and principal writer. First there was the sad decline of Syd Barrett then the long the festering war which saw the sacking of Richard Wright, the unexpected departure of Roger Waters and a ferocious high court legal battle. Over the years the Floyd have been forthright in their cristicism of their own work, and of each other. This penetrating independent film review draws on the media pronouncements of David Gilmour, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright to produce the most frank and candid frist hand appraisal of the Floyd Phenomenon ever produced.
