"The Royal Opera Convent Garde - Der Rosenkavalier"

Strauss's dazzling opera "Der Rosenkavalier" is set in 1740s Vienna. The aristocratic Marschallin realises that one day she will have to relinquish her teenage lover, Count Octavian, to a younger woman. Her cousin, the lecherous Baron Ochs, asks her to suggest someone to present his pretty young fiancee, Sophie, with the silver rose, which customarily accompanies a marriage proposal. The Marschallin suggests Octavian. However, at the Presentation of the Rose the two young people fall instantly in love, and Sophie asks Octavian to save her from Ochs. Octavian hatches a plan to humiliate Ochs as a lecher, so that Sophie can legitimately refuse to marry him. After much mayhem, the Marschallin arrives just in time to smooth things over, and reluctantly gives the union of Octavian and Sophie her blessing.
