Described by pundits and fans alike as one of the great defenders of all-time, italian soccer star Paolo Maldini has had a truly glittering career, which has seen him garner a wide array of honours and achievements.
born in milan in 1968, Maldini has played for his hometown's soccer team throughout his career, and is italy's most capped player. Maldini played in the 1990 and 1994 world cup finals, and the 2000 european championship final, retiring from the national team after the 2002 world cup and finishing his career with 126 caps and seven goals. More recently Paolo Maldini was nominated to the champions league 2004-2005 most valuable defender title, took second place in the 2005 golden foot nominations, and attained a top 10 placing in the voting for the 2005 world player of the year.
